From our website you can hire a musician, vocalist, songwriter, or producer, upload your song materials instantly and receive your finished recording in 4 weeks or less. We also provide sheet music and song mastering services.

3. Who is behind Demo My Song?

Demo My Song was founded by Berklee alumnus Trystan Matthews in 2004 and has grown to include a talented staff of over 30 producers, engineers, musicians, and vocalists. We were originally based in Seattle, Washington but recently found a new home and headquarters in Portland, Oregon.

No. We charge a fee to record your songs or lyrics. We do not buy songs or lyrics.

8. Who keeps the rights to the song?

You do. When you hire a musician, producer, or vocalist at Demo My Song you retain 100% of the copyright and we provide you with a standard "Work For Hire" agreement at no additional charge.

But wait there's more... any artist may choose to Co-Publish a song with us instead and get song mastering, album artwork, submission to iTunes and more. Read more about the benefits of co-publishing below.

9. What are the benefits to co-publishing?

Artists who opt to co-publish a song with us will benefit from the marketing efforts of our newly launched music publishing & licensing company Laetoli Music, which seeks placement of songs in commercials, television, radio, film, etc. We will also master your song and provide original album artwork and distribution via iTunes and more.

10. What's the difference between a Work For Hire and a Co-Publishing Agreement?

The Work For Hire Agreement states that you retain 100% of the rights to the finished song. The Co-Publishing Agreement is a 50/50 split of copyright between you and Laetoli Music Inc.

11. Does Demo My Song help with marketing?

Yes, but only if you choose to work with us on a 50-50 basis. We do not proivde marketing for songs produced as Work For Hire.

12. How do I copyright my songs?

Under present copyright law, a work is automatically protected by copyright as soon as it is created and exists in a tangible or audible form such as a recording or sheet music. However, if your copyright is ever infringed upon you will have an easier time proving your case if your works are registered with the U.S. Copyright Office. It costs $45 to register your song with the U.S. Copyright Office but you can register a published collection of songs with one application fee if you are claiming sole ownership of all the songs in the collection. 14. How do I pay?

We accept credit and debit cards via PayPal online secure payment, or a check or money order made payable to Demo My Song.

15. Can I pay in installments?

We are flexible as to providing payment plans. If you need to pay a little bit at a time, we will be happy to facilitate this. Please note, however, that we will not begin working on a song until the song is paid for in full.

17. How long does it take for Demo My Song to produce my song?

Depending on the project, songs are usually completed within 2-4 weeks. If you have a specific deadline, please let us know as we can often accommodate.

18. What exactly do I receive when I hire a musician at Demo My Song?

A recording of your song or lyrics arranged and produced to your specifications.

Once completed, your songs will be available for instant download as wav and mp3 files. If a CD is needed, one may be purchased separately. Other popular options include song mastering, sheet music, and STEMS (track-by-track wav files). You will receive a Work For Hire or Co-Publishing Agreement electronically via DocuSign (see "rights" below).

If you purchase a vocal track with a recording package, you will receive one track with vocals and one without, in case you want to add your own later.

20. In what format should I send my song to Demo My Song?

Upload your recordings as .wav, .aiff, or .mp3, your lyrics and chord charts as .txt, .rtf, or .doc, and your sheet music as .pdf or .jpg.

21. Can I choose between a male or female vocalist for my recording?

Yes, we offer male and female vocalists (or both).

22. Can I put my own vocals on my song?

Yes, you will receive an instrumental version of the song suitable for adding your own vocals if you wish. For best results, we suggest tracking your vocals in a professional studio near you or you are welcome to visit us here in Portland, OR. Purchasing STEMS (track-by-track wav's) is something to consider if you plan to mix the track yourself.

23. Can Demo My Song record my song even if I don't play any instruments?

Yes. We can derive a chord sheet from a simple vocal recording and build an arrangement from that. Listen to our before and after samples of this.

24. What kinds of instrumentation does Demo My Song offer?

The instruments most commonly used on the tracks we produce are guitar, keys, bass, and drums but we also record strings, woodwinds, horns/brass, lap and pedal steel guitars, mandolin, harmonica, choirs... you get the idea. 28. Do you have an option to add photos or make a music video?

We recently partnered with a company that will provide a professionally printed CD (you can provide artwork or pics). If interested, please inquire about this option when making your purchase. We don't produce music videos but have again partnered with a Portland based company that does. If you want to make a music video for your song, let us know and we will have someone get in touch with you in order to prepare a quote.
