Artist Interview
What was your inspiration for writing “Bridge to Selma”?
The 50th anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery marches was a powerful moment of national reflection. I felt that music was the right vessel for honoring that history — something that could carry the emotion and the weight of what happened on that bridge in a way that words alone cannot.
What do you hope this song conveys to listeners?
That the struggle for civil rights is not ancient history — it is living memory. The people who marched across that bridge are still with us, or not long gone. Their courage deserves to be felt, not just read about. Music has the power to keep history alive and make sure the sacrifices of the past are never forgotten.
How did you approach the production of this piece?
With reverence, above all. I wanted the music to honor the gravity of the subject while still being something people could connect with emotionally. The collaboration with Demo My Song was essential in achieving that balance.
